What happens on a Sunday morning
If you are new to church, haven’t been for a long time, or if you want to ‘check out’ Christianity, you may wonder what to expect on a Sunday morning. You are always welcome at St John’s and we will do our best to make you feel comfortable.
Our most popular Sunday morning service is Sunday@9.30 where you will be welcomed by a greeter at the front door of the church. You will be given a photocopied order of the service, a hymn book and a weekly newsletter.
As you enter the church please sit wherever you feel comfortable. During the service the priest will announce page numbers, hymns, etc.
The service lasts for around one hour. We sing hymns, read from the Bible, listen to a talk or sermon about aspects of the Bible or the Christian life, pray and share in the Holy Communion which is also known as The Lord’s Supper or Eucharist.
When you come to a service at St John’s, you will be our honoured, respected and welcome guest.
We will not single you out in an embarrassing way, nor ask you to stand up before the congregation, or come forward.
After the service you are invited to join us for morning tea and refreshments. It’s an opportunity for you to get to know some other people.
