Our Ministry Team

The Rev’d Canon Paul Black, Rector, came to the parish from Melbourne in January 2008. St John’s College, Morpeth (in the Diocese of Newcastle) is where he did his theological training. He was ordained deacon and priest by the Bishop of Rockhampton in 1986 and 1987. The Rev'd Jonathan Cole, Assistant Priest, came in November 2016. Ordained in 2014, he has served in the parishes of Weston and Crookwell. He is married to Elysha and has two sons and a daughter. Email: jonathan.cole@stjohnscanberra.org  Mobile: 0402 629 667 

 

The Rev'd Canon Kevin Stone is our Aged Care Pastoral Coordinator who visits and ministers to older persons in the parish and is helping us develop a proactive program of ministry to this age group. Michael Shaw is our Young People's Ministry Facilitator. He studied a Bachelor of Video Games and Virtual World's Programming and has been involved in a number of other activities such as Medieval Re-enactment with sword fighting. The Rev’d Vicky Cullen, Honorary Priest, was a secondary and tertiary teacher for 20 years before ordination. She studied at St Mark’s National Theological Centre and was made deacon in 1988, being appointed to St John’s as curate for 3 years until 1992 when she was ordained priest. Archdeacon David Hill, Honorary Priest, is the son of Archdeacon Hill who was the Rector of St John’s in the 1960′s and early 1970′s. He served as a Naval Chaplain for almost twenty years and left the RAN as a Senior Chaplain in order to return to the Diocese as Rector of Moruya in 1995. He has retired from full-time Ministry and joined the staff of St John’s in 2007.

Sheila Thomson OAM, Director of Music, has a performance degree in pipe organ from the Canberra School of Music. She is a teacher of piano and organ and is one of the conductors of the local U3A choir. On Australia Day 2012 she was awarded an Order of Australia in the General Division for the service to the community as a church organist and musical director.
