Basement Ministries

Our Mission

“God’s a safe house for the battered, a sanctuary during bad times. The moment you arrive you relax: you’re never sorry you knocked” Psalm 9:9-10 (The Message)

“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’” Matt 28:18-20

Basement Ministries strives to be a group of people who welcomes, loves and serves the community in a way that is relevant to their lives. We hope to build authentic relationships and explore together what it means to know Jesus and follow his example.

Our Vision:

Basement Ministries is currently aiming to carry out its mission in three main ways.

Spiritual Development: Basement Ministries runs a service on Sunday evenings which begins with a shared meal at 5.30pm at the Shed in Amaroo St. Small groups are available for people who are interested and operate during the week.

Meant: Basement Ministries meets Sunday nights 5:30pm for a shared meal and a time of worship. We are located in ‘The Shed’ on Amaroo St Reid, look for the white shed next to CIT.

Ministry in the Flats: A fortnightly bread run to the flats in Braddon and Reid led to the development of a relationship with the community worker there. As a result several possibilities have opened up including our involvement in a children’s program and regular community meals.

Basement Ministries is working towards opening a coffee shop called Meant in Civic. The Meant team currently meet fortnightly on a Thursday to pray and put together our business plan.

Our Values

Authenticity: We value relationships that are real and honest. We encourage vulnerability and integrity. Come as you are. No perfect people allowed.

Justice and Compassion: Our God is a God of justice and compassion (Micah 6:8).We hope to incorporate these attributes in all aspects of Basement; God’s heart for the poor, for the disadvantaged, for the downtrodden.  Basement Ministries also values ethical business practises.

Prayer: We acknowledge that God is smarter than us.  Knowing this, we’d be idiots not to seek His direction in all that we do.  We seek God through prayer for healing, strength, wisdom etc...

Relational Ministry: God works in the community of the Trinity, so we also try to work in a community.  Therefore we value the building of real and deep relationships. This the foundation of all Basement Ministries does.

Biblical Truth: We aim to provide foundational teaching. The Bible is God’s living message to us and therefore forms the basis of our faith and actions as a community. We explore the practical application of God’s message to us today through varied methods of teaching and sharing.

Spiritual Growth and development: We value the continuing journey of becoming more like Jesus through discipleship and striving for excellence in life.

Worship: True worship is loving God first in all that we do.  We all experience God in different ways, so we value different expressions of worship.

Service: If loving God comes first, loving others is next.  We value service as an opportunity to be amongst the wider community, and to demonstrate God’s love for them.

Generosity: We know that everything we have is God’s, so we do not hold these as our own and to give more than the expected.
